Belsay Grotto wallhanging
Since April `22 I have been painting and selling zero angle woodland scene paintings on small coaster size slices of lumbar. When towards the end of the year I was given the opportunity to revisit Belsay Hall I was inspired to transfer the concept . Upon wandering the grounds I was struck by the scale and height of the quarries and trees. When I saw what is referred to as "the Grotto quarry" I knew I had found my referance for a wraparound image. Referance photos were taken and a chunky lumbar slice lent itself to the project. After drawing a base sketch I created a sky with clouds that dried to form a face, giving me a "talking to the gods" concept. A meditational reminder of a peaceful day.
